MP candidates for the North Northumberland constituency will be facing public questions at an informal election hustings to be held at a venue in Berwick on Friday, June 28.

Those originally confirmed to be attending the hustings at Northern View when the relevant Berwick Advertiser page went to press were, in alphabetical order, Georgina Hill (Independent), Michael Joyce (Independent) and Natalie Younes (Liberal Democrats). However, Ms Younes can no longer attend.

The Conservative (Anne-Marie Trevelyan), Green Party (Jan Rosen), Labour (David Smith) and SDP (Andrew Martin) candidates have also declined the invitation. They and now Ms Younes have citied other engagements already in the diary and timing changes as reasons why they cannot attend.

The hustings will start at 7.30pm.

An update post on the Northern View Facebook page says: “Due to a diary clash, the Liberal Democrat candidate is no longer able to attend Friday’s Election Hustings.

“With only Michael Joyce (Independent), Georgina Hill (Independent) and a representative from the Conservative Party now attending, we have decided to make the evening more informal.

“You will still be able to meet them and ask all your questions. But in a more relaxed way.”
