Berwick Rangers confirm return of popular midfielder
Lewis Barr has come out for retirement to re-sign for Berwick Rangers.
Berwick Rangers have confirmed the re-signing of midfielder Lewis Barr.

The 32-year-old previously spent seven seasons at Shielfield Park between 2018 and 2025, making 123 appearances and scoring 14 goals in total, while also scooping a number of end of season awards.
Barr had announced his retirement from football before the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign, but has now reversed his decision and will rejoin Berwick on a deal that will initially run until the end of the current campaign.
Speaking upon his return, he said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back. I had seven wonderful seasons at Berwick, made so many friends, and had some great times as well. My decision to retire was purely down to personal reasons, but life can change quickly and I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to get back to football for a while now. When the club approached me, I just thought that there is nowhere I’d rather play than Berwick Rangers.”
Barr continued: “I’ve been back in training, and absolutely loving it. It’s been great seeing some of the boys that I played with before, as well as meeting the newer guys. I know it might take me a little while to get fully up to speed, but training has felt great, and I’m just looking forward to getting going again. I hope we can have a successful season, and I just can’t wait to be back in a black and gold shirt.”
Recently appointed Rangers boss Martin Scott said: “Following discussions with the chairman and an assessment of the squad during our first four training sessions and opening matches, Lewis Barr emerged as a strategic signing who we believe can make a real difference to the group. Lewis knows the club, understands what it means to represent Berwick Rangers, and is a Berwick man through and through.”
He added: “We put a plan in place to invite him back into training, and the conversations with Lewis have gone extremely well. We’re delighted to welcome him back to the club. Lewis brings a wealth of experience, physicality, maturity, and quality in his all-round play. We believe his presence will strengthen the squad, contribute positively to the team dynamics and add valuable experience to the dressing room. He will be a real asset to Berwick Rangers. We’re delighted to have Lewis back on board and look forward to seeing the impact he can make, both on and off the pitch.”
